People Around Us

My Brother
by Nataša Spasić, 15

My brother Nenad is four years older than me. He attends the fourth grade of the grammar school. He looks like my mother and we have different characters. He is really good at dancing but sometimes he is really boring when he dances in the house. We can say that he is a better pupil than me, and he helps me sometimes with my homework, especially in English and Maths. He is teaching me how to dance. We are stubborn, both of us and that's the real reason why we are quarelling every day. But in every way I like my brother. We like the same things: music, films, jokes and many other things.

My Cousin Damjan
by Strahinja Cvetković, 14

My cousin's name is Damjan. I love him more than anyone else I know. He has brown eyes and long hair. His hairstyle is like a circle. I always fight with him. He's about 1.50 m tall. He is very clever. But he is very clumsy, too. I always play with him. He likes to play computer games. Every time when I come to his place he says, "Have you learnt to play football?" Then I hit him. He always wants to eat sweets when he comes to my place. He always says " Why am I not stronger than you? " He is good at English, too. But sometimes he is very boring. He likes to watch sports. He trains basketball but he is a very clumsy player. He always watches TV and he goes out very rarely. My cousin is both stupid and clever. I like him the way he is. I get on well with him.

The father of my grandmother was killed by Germans in that war. After that her family didn't know anything about where he was burried or anything else. They just received a document about his death. I'm going to tell you what she said about the life fifty years ago.

It was a very difficult life. They used to live in a small village and there she went to school. When she finished the fourth grade her parents couldn't let her go to another school. She was a very good student and it was very bad experience for her. At that time they didn't have TV or anything else. Her mother was a cook and she also worked on a farm. She and her sisters used to tend cattle and after they were eighteen they got married and had children. Such were not only their lives but also the lives of all other women. Everything was so different from today. Most of people didn't have any education and
