On
11th February , SUNSHINE, a controversial
Yugoslav rap band, held a concert in Valjevo. Judging by the
reactions it seems that rap music is predominantly boys’ music.
It is the boys who dance to rap music in discos, not the girls. It
is the boys who can better relate to rap lyrics. Here are some
comments by a group of secondary school students who attended the
concert:
Tamara:
Sunshine is the ugliest group on our scene. I
sometimes use it to scare my grandma.
Maja:
Sunshine is the coolest group, and I’m dead serious.
Dusko: Sunshine is the best rap group in Yugoslavia.
Alexandra: It is a very negative group because it sends messages about drugs and
murders. They’re black’n dark.
Dragana: They’re a very popular group, although the kind of music they play
isn’t so good.
Ana: Sunshine has a bad influence on young people. Their songs are awful.
Smiljana: The properer name for them is “NIGHTMARE”. It is the worst YU group
that has ever existed.
Milivoje: Sunshine is one of the best groups in Yugoslavia.
Ivana J & Ivana S:
We think their music is good, but the lyrics are really bad. Their
concerts are very dangerous – you could get killed! Wir lieben nicht Sunshine!
Bojana: I think they’re great and
I’m in love with their bass player Coyote.
Natasa: Sunshine, wow, they have the
most handsome singer on our scene.
Ivan:
They are good, but little
too hard core for my taste.
Bojana: I think that hard core makes them good.
Ivan: I think you’re crazy.
Natasa: They are not even close to singers. I have watched their concerts.
Ivan: They are not singers!
